The Swedish LRC was founded in 1977 by a group of dedicated people in the south of Sweden. Since then, the Club has steadily grown. Today, there are almost
4200 members including His Royal Majesty, The Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf, who is
Member of Honour.
The Club's main purpose is the welfare of the breed, with the breed's history in mind. Also, most importantly, the Breed Standard and a carefully regulated Health Programme. A Breeding Programme has to be considered as a long term project.
To achieve that in the most successful way, the LRC is now represented in many parts of Sweden through our sixteen Regions, from north to south. The Regions local work is the foundation of the Club, guided by the members wishes and needs and the Swedish Labrador Club's aims.
The LRC General Committee deals with Breed Specific matters through the Breed Committee, such as the Health Programme, general breeding matters and the puppy references. It also deals with education of the Club Officials plus Breed Conferences, Shows and Field Trials.
The General Committee is also responsible for publishing the Club Magazine Labradoren. It goes without saying that the LRC also has close contact with The Swedish Spaniel and Retriever Club as well as The Swedish Kennel Club.
